I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Fraud (for example, bogus callers, courier fraud, cyber crime), which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. Kent Police is reminding residents to remain vigilant against fraudsters and rogue traders who often target vulnerable members of our community.
Rogue traders may knock on your door offering to carry out urgent repairs to roofs, driveways, guttering, fencing, or other household work. They often pressure residents into making quick decisions, demand cash payments, charge excessive fees, or carry out poor-quality work that doesn't need doing.
❌ Never feel pressured into agreeing to work on your property. ❌ Do not hand over cash or bank details to cold callers. ❌ Be wary of traders who claim work is urgently required.
✅ Always seek recommendations from trusted friends or family. ✅ Obtain at least three written quotes before agreeing to work. ✅ Use reputable, accredited traders. ✅ Take your time and don't be rushed into making decisions.
Protect Yourself from Fraud
Fraud can take many forms, including: 📞 Phone scams claiming to be from banks, police, or government agencies. 📧 Phishing emails and text messages asking for personal details. 💻 Online shopping and investment scams. 🏠 Doorstep crime and rogue traders.
Remember:
🔒 Your bank, the police, or government organisations will never ask for your PIN, password, or full banking details. 🔒 If something feels wrong, stop, take a moment, and verify independently using trusted contact details.
Safeguarding Vulnerable People
Fraudsters and rogue traders often target older people and those living alone. Please check in on family members, friends, neighbours, and vulnerable relatives. A simple conversation could prevent someone from becoming a victim.

📞 To report fraud, suspicious doorstep callers, or rogue traders, contact Kent Police on 101 or report online via the Kent Police website.

It said around three million scams took place, with frauds involving payment cards being the most common. Fraud is when trickery is used to gain a dishonest advantage, which is often financial, over another person. Cybercrime is any criminal act dealing with computers and networks.
